On July 19th and 20th I went to the 30th anniversary of The Bill Pickett Rodeo at the Industry Hills Expo Center in Los Angeles. Named after the black cowboy and wild west performer, The Bill Pickett Rodeo was created in 1984 in order to bring awareness to the important roles that blacks played in developing the west. This is the first part of “The Black Cowboys of L.A.” which is the second “chapter” of my project that explores the different cultures and subcultures of Los Angeles.
